Set off to discover Montserrat: visit the monastery and enjoy lunch on a local farm overlooking the Catalan mountains!
You'll meet your guide in the center of Barcelona before departing by bus for Montserrat. On the way out of the city, your driver will pass Barcelona's iconic monuments and neighborhoods: the Eixample district, Avenida Diagonal, the Royal Palace of Pedralbes as well as the city's first University Campus, the UB.
After observing the surrounding countryside, you'll soon catch sight of the Montserrat massif, a UNESCO World Heritage natural park.
Located just a few kilometers from Barcelona, this rocky chain of multiple needle-shaped peaks surprises and captivates with its beauty. Even more spectacular is the Benedictine monastery that overlooks the massif and has become a place of pilgrimage. It is home to the famous Moreneta, the patron saint of Catalonia, and is visited by thousands of the faithful and curious every year.
On arrival, you'll take the cable car up to the monastery. You'll visit the building, built in the 10th century and still in operation, accompanied by your guide. He'll tell you all about the history of this place and the life of the monks who still live there. You'll also visit the Basilica of Santa Maria de Montserrat and appreciate its Romanesque and Gothic architecture. As an option, you can also discover the Moreneta on your own (surcharge).
You'll then enjoy some free time to continue exploring the site at your leisure before taking the bus back to a local farm nearby. This farm has been present in the area for hundreds of years and cultivates over 2,700 trees, varieties of the region, including palomar and aloe vera, on terraces. You'll have lunch in a unique environment, surrounded by the "needles" of Montserrat.
Once lunch is over, you'll head back to Barcelona.
