Discover the filming locations of the famous Downton Abbey series on a day trip to Highclere Castle, Bampton and Oxford from London !
Starting from Victoria, you'll leave London for a day set to the Downton Abbey series.
First stop Oxford, famous for its university, bookshops and cobbled streets. Accompanied by your guide, you'll discover the city on a walking tour, before enjoying free time for lunch (not included), or to continue exploring the city.
Then, you'll catch the bus back to the village of Bampton, which lies in the county of Oxford. Part of the tour will be guided, while the other will be free to explore the village at your leisure. Many of the Downton Abbey village scenes were filmed in Bampton, so you may recognize some of the famous locations from the series, such as the exterior of Matthew Crawley's mother's house, the Downton Abbey hospital and the church.
You'll then reach the famous Highclere Castle, built by Sir Charles Berry, where the main scenes of the series are filmed.
Inhabited by the Carnarvon family, you'll visit the castle's public rooms on your own, such as the main hall, the library and or the drawing rooms. You can also take a stroll in the grounds or enjoy tea in one of the tea rooms (not included).
Before leaving, you'll be presented with a copy of one of Lady Carnarvon's books, as a souvenir.
Finally, you'll return to London in the early evening.
