You will leave for Petrópolis, situated at 60km from Rio, in the morning when a shuttle will collect you from your hotel. 'The Stone City' takes its name from the first emperor of Brazil, Pedro I.
You will begin your trip with a visit to the Imperial Museum, the summer residence of Emperor Pedro II which still houses period furniture and jewels. You will then continue on to the gothic cathedral where Princess Isabel of Brazil was buried by her father's side.
Your last stop of the day will be to the Crystal Palace; you will visit this building, constructed in France and transported to Brazil where Isabel, the Imperial Princess organised numerous exhibitions and receptions.
